Fragmented Dialogues (2019)
The video installation “Fragmented Dialogues" reflects deep inner thoughts, concerns and worries of change and the inversion of the values of happiness through the way preconceived gender stereotypes and generational ideology constrain happiness and humanity. The artwork is an experimental attempt constructed from distinguished Vietnamese film footage in the 1950s, 1970s and 1980s - the periods after unification of the country with an aim to question cross-generational prejudice and misconception about women’s embodiment and structures. At the same time, it recreates a uniquely individual story, a message of resistance to opposing barriers of social suppression and expectations. The piece puts its center focus point into viewers' interactions and spatial installation by testing projection on silk box. This is an attempt in order to further explore the limitations of the traditional silk material, which is often mistaken by both audience and artists as explicitly a material for Fine Arts.
